I became interested in nutrition and wellness in my twenties as I was raising my kids and striving to give them the best opportunity to grow up healthy. I read everything about nutrition that I could get my hands on -- back in the day when there wasn’t Google! I joined the local food co-op, baked my own bread, and tried to limit processed foods. I experimented with homeopathy and other natural remedies as an alternative to OTC and prescription medications. Eventually, I furthered my education by receiving a master’s degree in Holistic Nutrition and became a Certified Nutrition Consultant.
In my late thirties, I went through a period of extreme stress as a single parent. I only slept a few hours every night trying to work several jobs and care for my kids. This definitely contributed to my health challenges ten years later. Even once life was considerably more settled and I was active and eating what I believed to be a healthy diet, I began to develop troubling symptoms; weight gain, extreme exhaustion, depression, muscle fatigue and dermatitis. My hair was falling out and I was cold all the time. I had a hard time waking up in the mornings and to add insult to injury I was going through early menopause. After several years of endless doctor visits and tests with no answers, I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis - an autoimmune thyroid disorder. I was happy to finally have a diagnosis but my doctor only knew to prescribe thyroid medications which didn’t relieve my symptoms. My health seemed to be going downhill fast but I refused to accept that the rest of my life would be a struggle to feel good. Using my nutrition background, I became a wellness warrior with a quest to take back my health. I’ve spent the last 10 years searching for answers and discovering the secrets to healing and wellness.
Today I am feeling better than I have in years and have the energy to enjoy being "Gigi" to my 9 grandchildren. With God's help, I did this by "adding" and "subtracting" foods and lifestyle changes that slowly led to healing.
Join me here as I share my experiences, practical tips and inspiration for change. The launch of this resource is a dream come true for me – it’s my passion and purpose to help you achieve longevity and "make the second half of your life the best half." This is possible but not without making some lifestyle adjustments. And let’s face it, the older we get the harder it is to change. If I can do it, so can you. You are worth the effort!
